How Do I Keep My Loop Load From Going Bad Fast?
When the summer heat hits, your Loop load can go from fresh to very much not fresh in a hurry. A little planning can help slow things down and make your food go further.
๐ง Refrigeration Is Best
If you have access to refrigeration, use it! Keeping your load cool is one of the best ways to slow down spoilage, especially during the summer.
But we know refrigeration isn't always an option on the farm โ so what else can you do?
๐ฆ Give It Some Air
Banana boxes are your friend! Avoid packing your load too tightly and use sturdy cardboard boxes that allow for airflow. Good ventilation can help prevent heat and moisture from getting trapped around your food.
๐จ Keep the Flies Moving
A fan can be a simple way to help keep air moving and flies away from your load. Set one up nearby and let it do some of the work for you.
๐ท Feed It Before It Goes Bad
See something that's already starting to turn? Feed it out immediately rather than letting it sit and continue to deteriorate.
The sooner you catch something that's on its way out, the more likely you are to get some use out of it.
Keep it cool. Keep it moving. Feed the questionable stuff first. And when in doubt, don't let summer win!
